I was extremely disappointed in the observations expressed in the July 20 letter, "Why is the Rose Garden looking so unkempt?"

I am part of a group of walkers who walk every day on the Lakewalk, beginning at the Rose Garden and returning there about mid-morning. Over the years we have grown to know many of the city parks crew who care for the city's parks and, specifically, the Rose Garden. While between lawn cuttings the grass can get a little long, not unlike our home lawns, there is no doubt in my mind the crew that cares for the parks and the Rose Garden is dedicated, hardworking and proud of the appearance of their work.

The letter-writer's visit to the Rose Garden had to be one of colossally bad timing. I would strongly suggest if one is so ready to criticize one should make it a point to base the criticism on visits over a period of time with some opportunity to better see the overall instead of making unwarranted statements based on one visit.

The time and energies of hardworking city crews and all volunteers make the Rose Garden one of the premier attractions of the summer in Duluth.
