Cheers for U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack for his stance on the proposed train planned by his predecessor between Duluth and the Twin Cities. He seems to feel that this latest fiasco would be a maintenance burden on us taxpayers.
Plus, there's the estimated cost of about $750 million. Be assured that with traditional government cost overruns, the gaffe surely will approach near $1 billion, if not more, just to get it up and running.
And for what? The train would not be a benefit to business people who travel back and forth. And imagine the costs for a small family to take a trip to Minneapolis and back. Ridiculous! We would be far better-served by using that government gift to repair our roads, highways and other infrastructure items. Better yet, we could invest in getting meat-and-potatoes jobs for this area, jobs that pay good wages for a job well done and that would last for a career.
