Reader's view: Cravaack appears to be allergic to the truth

I say political debates are good, in response to the July 19 letter, "What is Oberstar afraid of?" Debates deal with policy and issues, in depth and at length. They also deal exclusively with facts, not fiction.

I'm reminded of a great quote from President Reagan: "You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts." Reagan was right on.

That's exactly why U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar shouldn't debate Chip Cravaack. The Republican challenger appears to be allergic to the truth. He is either deliberately trying to mislead voters or he doesn't know the facts; I don't know which is worse. Oberstar should not debate him and provide him with the opportunity to continue to spread outright falsehoods to voters.

Keep up the good work, Congressman Oberstar.
