I tried to write a letter critiquing U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy's waste-of-time town hall meetings to show what citizens might expect if U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack ever braved them at another town hall in Duluth; and I tried to do it in 200 words, as per News Tribune rules. It was nearly impossible.
Citizens can prepare for a staged presentation, with biased facts and stonewalling when difficult questions are asked, like, "Do you wear lobbyist Grover Norquist's collar?" Citizens can expect to hear everything is President Obama's fault, with no mention of President Bush's unfunded wars, Medicare plan and Republican bailout of banks. I think Tea Partiers all follow the same town-hall script.
The Republican Congress did nothing to help the middle class. It wouldn't repeal oil subsidies and wanted to continue Bush's tax cuts to billionaires. The partisan U.S. Supreme Court ensured elections could be bought. And, as a parting shot, televangelist Pat Robertson stated Americans should work until at least 72. Such an arrogant statement from a rich man who never has worked.
When Mitt Romney claims he's a businessman as a basis for election, well, he never actually had one cent of his millions on the line.
