The editorial cartoon published Nov. 28, depicting the pope wearing a condom, was the most disgusting, deplorable, nastiest Cagle cartoon the News Tribune has ever printed. This was not a thought-provoking cartoon, a claim the editorial page department probably will hide behind. It was trash.
The pope is the spiritual leader of millions of Catholics and as such should be treated with respect. Those who work for Cagle and for this newspaper wouldn't dare to slam Islam like they seem to slam Christianity.
That's the way Nazism and fascism start, by demonizing religion and replacing it with the state.
I would like to know why some media want to tear down the fabric of the Christian religion. Did anyone get a laugh out of depicting the pope in this light? Why? The pope is human and tries to do his best. Why?
As far as condom use: What a non-story. The pope said men-to-men should use condoms to prevent AIDS, and the media went nuts.
