Reader's View: Candidates align with feminist goals

While the Feminist Action Collective (FAC) doesn't formally endorse any Duluth School Board candidates, we feel it's imperative to point out particular candidates who align with our mission and goals.

While the Feminist Action Collective (FAC) doesn't formally endorse any Duluth School Board candidates, we feel it's imperative to point out particular candidates who align with our mission and goals.

For School Board At Large, Sally Trnka: the School Board, like all leadership organizations, has a long history of challenging and often divisive discourse. Trnka indicates a willingness to communicate respectfully and effectively with the differing opinions intrinsic to the board and has stated a deep commitment to closing the achievement gap and fostering diversity as an instrument of change and inclusion.

In District 1, incumbent Rosie Loeffler-Kemp: Loeffler-Kemp is running for her second term on the board. A more than 20-year veteran of Duluth DFL politics, Loeffler-Kemp has been a strong voice for women and underrepresented and marginalized communities, through informal advocacy, formal leadership, and membership on a wide but representative array of boards.

In District 4, challenger Jill Lofald: Lofald is passionate about equity for all students, desires to work cross-functionally with other agencies (such as YMCA and Boys and Girls Club), and intends to work as an advocate for families living in Duluth.
