First, assume that I care what highly paid, physically gifted athletes think. Now that I care, I want to understand what motivates National Football League players to kneel or retreat to their locker rooms during the playing of the national anthem. Their grievance seems to be a perceived epidemic of police brutality against blacks, a perception not supported by evidence.
Several universal principles need to be understood. If you disobey or smart-mouth a police officer, expect to be challenged. If you attack a police officer, expect to be tased or shot. Law enforcement officers are the line of defense between peace and anarchy. They will get the benefit of the doubt in confrontations where facts are unclear. When law enforcement is discouraged, you get Chicago in 2016 with 80 gunshot victims a week, disproportionately African-Americans on either end of the barrel. Take a knee and pray about that.
Race-baiters, please notice that these universal principles apply to the entire spectrum of race, just as President Donald Trump's supposedly controversial comments have been race-neutral.
Meanwhile, on Sundays now, I find extra time to finish a book, trim a spruce tree, or change the oil in my snowblower. That's because I'm blocking out the NFL. I don't miss it. The league antics were becoming tiresome anyway.
Race-hustlers, before feigning outrage, please understand that in no way is an NFL boycott intended as a reference to skin color.
