I just read the June 1 story, "Duluth's farmers market studied by MBA students," about a business plan St. Mary's University students are developing.
I have thought about such potential, and the Bayfront Festival Park grounds would seem to be a great location. My image includes a timbered, three-season construction along Slip 2, which is between Bayfront Festival Park and the historic cement plant now owned, and for sale, by Lafarge Cement of Superior.
I suggest expanding Duluth's farmers market to include visual artists and other vendors. There is a vibrant artists' community in the region using a hodgepodge of sales locations. There are bathrooms nearby, ample parking, ready access, great visibility from Interstate 35 and even a play area for the kids.
It would seem like a win-win for sellers, buyers and Duluth in general.
