I was horrified to read about a new synthetic marijuana and what it is doing to some of the people who are using it ("Duluth councilor wants ban on synthetic pot," July 14).

But I was thankful to read the City Council passed a ban on this deadly substance ("Duluth City Council makes synthetic marijuana illegal," Aug. 31).

Good for councilors for trying to protect our young people.

One of the articles on this issue stated that Jim Carlson, the owner of the Last Place on Earth, was threatening a lawsuit. I saw that as a classic example of what is wrong with America these days: greed! Making money by selling a potentially deadly substance appears to be more important to Carlson than doing the correct thing and taking it off the shelves of his store.
