Reader's view: Bachmann needs to stop her shopworn rhetoric

U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minnesota, recently said the Tea Party caucus will be a "receptacle" for an anti-tax, small-government movement of mainstream Americans.

U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minnesota, recently said the Tea Party caucus will be a "receptacle" for an anti-tax, small-government movement of mainstream Americans.

Would she explain how we will pay down the debt and reduce deficits without raising taxes? If it can be done with spending cuts alone, it's about time the Tea Party and Bachmann stopped the shopworn rhetoric of "smaller government and lower taxes" and give us some specific recommendations of cuts they favor. Would it be Homeland Security, defense spending, veterans' benefits, immigration enforcement, ethanol subsidies, farm price supports, Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid? Just what spending do they favor cutting?

The problem might be that they wish to have lower taxes for themselves and smaller government for everyone else.
