There are many injuries in professional football, and pretty much everyone knows it. There is a heck of a lot of brain damage from concussions in professional football, and pretty much everyone know it. And there is even an occasional death among high school football players whose brains and/or brain stems are not fully developed. Yet many people cannot look away when football is being played.
The way the cameras look down on the players reminds one of Caesar and other elites looking down on the gladiators in the Roman colosseum just before the fall of the Roman empire. Many people say some sort of day of reckoning is at hand.
The solution? One word: love.
For starters, America can stop torturing people down in Gitmo with tortures such as waterboarding and extended sleep deprivation. And we should certainly not tolerate the more severe tortures President-elect Donald Trump may authorize.
Outlawing the cruel and unusual punishment of the death penalty - as every civilized country does - is also a step in the right direction. Why play God and execute people when it is less expensive to lock them up for life?
If you go to a Bible study in any other country on Earth and ask if those there think America is the Babylon in the book of Revelation, I would bet every penny I have the answer would be something like, “Yes, beyond a shadow of a doubt!”
The only thing I can think of to say in closing is love, love, love.
