The prospect of Gov. Mark Dayton calling a special session of Minnesota lawmakers to “fix” the health care insurance premium issue is almost laughable if it wasn’t not so serious.
The Affordable Care Act did not create this issue, as most lawmakers, state and federal, argue. Unaffordable health care insurance for individuals was an issue long before the Affordable Care Act. All the act did was bring the unaffordable aspect of non-employer-based health care insurance out into the open.
The Affordable Care Act did open up the availability for individual health insurance, but it did nothing to address affordability.
This was just another example of lawmakers not understanding an issue before they start making decisions that affect their constituents.
