With the ascension of John Bolton as the pick for national security advisor - no Senate confirmation required - we are now in the kind of jeopardy as a nation no one could have imagined a few years ago when a strong State Department (now undercut and weakened at every turn) was considered essential as an alternative to war.

Consider some of Bolton's writings, including, "The Case for a First Strike Against North Korea" and, "To Stop Iran's Bomb, Bomb Iran Now." His well-documented anti-Muslim views and endorsement of hate groups such as the American Freedom Alliance demonstrate a blatant hostility to other countries and cultures.

Voters who believed President Donald Trump when he ridiculed those in the administration for President George W. Bush who advocated the invasion of Iraq should take note. That war's No. 1 cheerleader was John Bolton.
