With regard to the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, which is opposed by the president and environmentalists, a solution is simple.
First, the Canadians can build a pipeline to the West Coast to get their oil to China. Who cares what they are doing to the environment with it?
Second, the Canadians can build a pipeline to Fort Frances, Ontario, just north of the Minnesota border. Then they can load oil onto 200-car oil tank car trains for the Canadian National Railway to ship it to Superior and then transfer it to pipelines to go south.
Of course, this will bog down the rail line, reducing its ability to move grain, coal, bulk shipment and other commodities. But that’s OK.
