Denfeld’s 1947 boys basketball team is the only Denfeld basketball team to win a state title. The team’s head coach was Lloyd Holm. Team members were Rudy Monson, Larry Tessier, Paul Nace, Kenneth Sunnarborg, Eugene Norlander, Howard Tucker, Tony Skull, Jerry Walczak, Bruce Budge, Keith Stolen and student manager Bob Scott.

Recently, my wife Karen and I were guests to watch the final flight of Col. Brad Jackson. He is finishing his career after serving our country for close to 40 years. Brad is commander of the 148th Fighter Group in Duluth and has many accolades of which to be proud.

The most impressive to me is that he flew F-16 fighter jets for 4,000 hours. He ranks 51st in the world! Brad’s commander, Col. Chris Blomquist, said he doubted anyone would ever be close to that mark again.

What impressed my wife and I the most at Brad’s celebration was how the young men and women serving our country actually served all of the guests. We were treated like royalty. They wouldn’t eat lunch until the guests were taken care of first. This was a reflection of the great leadership at our air base in Duluth.

Commander Col. Blomquist, Col. Brad Jackson, and the rest of their great staff are the ones who make America great. May God bless and protect all of our great service personnel.
