Overheard: Not the end for Lester Golf?

One of two municipal courses in Duluth, Lester won't open this year, but many are wondering about its long-term fate.

“I really respect the passion and love of golf that the golf community has, but when it comes to having one course open or two, it’s also a choice between keeping people employed and not. That’s a really tough challenge for us. We are trying to do our best. …

“(A) minimal plan (is) in place to do the necessary maintenance to keep (the Lester Park Golf Course) up for potential golf use in the future. And that is certainly the goal, to keep it ready. We had committed to keeping it open for the next, I think, for this year and two more, as we assess the long-term future of the golf program.”
