With all the information and misinformation swirling around the Duluth School District's long-range facilities plan, a dose of data that's unbiased, unfiltered and completely reliable can be as welcome as grandkids on Thanksgiving.
And Monday just may be the moment.
The expected impact on the Duluth-area economy of ISD 709's red plan has been analyzed, crunched and determined by teams of experts from the University of Minnesota Duluth's Labovitz School of Business and Economics and by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. The school's acting director, James Skurla, and the state's regional market analyst, Drew Digby, are scheduled to present the findings over lunch at the Radisson Hotel, 505 W. Superior St. The presentation is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"[The] research ... will illustrate the specific economic impact the plan will have in Duluth and the surrounding region," the event's host, the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement. "This information will help residents come to fully understand the plan and what it means for our community."
The goal is commendable -- and long needed.
