Brett Favre has signed with the Vikings. Or almost signed. Or he's about to.

Such reports have Minnesota Vikings fans drooling and Green Bay Packers fans quaking. Old number four in purple. After all those glorious years in green.

With his right arm healing from whatever it was that was ailing it late last season, the gunslinger just may cut short another retirement. If for no other reason than to stick it to the team on the Badger side of the Blatnik that finally gave up on his tiresome and annual playing-not playing, retiring-not retiring, what-do-you-mean-you've-moved-on game.

And that raises a question: Why would the Vikings want to add a player with so much baggage? This is a team on the cusp of a run at football's ultimate prize, a team with great chemistry and camaraderie. Why add a soap opera?

Vikings' defensive end Ray Edwards already has said, "We just don't want him to bring his prima-donna attitude to our team. Because I feel that will break a team apart."

Is breaking a team apart worth selling thousands of number-four Vikings jerseys to star-struck fans? Is it really worth finally filling the Metrodome on an every-game basis?

By putting number four in purple, Vikings owners are seeing only one color: green. And everyone knows which kind.
