Oct. 23 must have been a slow news day because there, above the fold, in a headline size usually reserved for the end of a war or the Twins winning the World Series, was a story about how much the Republican Party spent on Gov. Sarah Palin's wardrobe.

Why not how much the Obamas spent? Or Hillary? Or Nancy Pelosi? Or how much Michelle Obama spent for her lobster dinner at a five-star hotel recently? Who picked up the tab?

But I suppose all the self-appointed watchdogs and judges of proper and acceptable campaign expenditures are too busy digging to determine exactly how much pay John McCain bilked the taxpayers out of when he spent a six-year vacation at a Hilton hotel in the Orient 35 years ago instead of being at work.
