Reader's View: Women are the ones making masks

Reader's View.jpg

On March 27, the News Tribune published an editorial cartoon on its Opinion page depicting the Easter bunny as a male wearing a tie and slaving away at a sewing machine, making masks for the pandemic. I'm sure there are some good men also involved in this charitable effort, but all the mask-sewing efforts I've heard about so far have been initiated and carried out by women.

Don't the Easter bunny and Santa Claus, as phantom philanthropists, already claim more than their share of credit for the work women do? It would have been so easy for the cartoonist to put a dress on the rabbit instead of a tie to more fairly represent reality.

Kudos and gratitude to all the real women who are selflessly busy sewing masks for their fellow human beings.
