Why hasn’t any journalist questioned Gov. Tim Walz as to why his position on the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline flip-flopped since he was elected?
In an October 2018 article in a Twin Cities newspaper, then-candidate Walz was reported to “support a massive northern Minnesota pipeline project” and to “support the current path to construction.” Candidate Walz was reportedly “satisfied with the June decision by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to allow the project to move forward.” He was quoted saying, “The PUC did rule. We need to follow the process in place.” Finally, candidate Walz was reported to have said that “he would hear out the concerns from the Commerce Department, but is not inclined to stop the project given the PUC’s decision.”
Almost immediately after he was inaugurated, Gov. Walz reversed his stated position and proceeded to oppose the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline. It appears his stated position when running for office was only made to enlist the support of the trades unions for his election. Once elected, he reneged on his support.
Voters need to be wary that many politicians lie while they are campaigning just to garner support from various groups. Voters need to support candidates that fulfill their campaign promises.
