Rep. Pete Stauber ran on the promise that he would “fight for our way of life.” After his recent win, he said he wanted to earn the trust of people who didn’t vote for him. Good goal. Here’s a suggestion:
Democracy is the foundation of “our way of life.” At this moment, President Donald Trump’s unwarranted claims of election corruption pose real threats to our democracy. Although Rep. Stauber has said he would support the outcome of the election (“Stauber Q&A: 'I’m going to support the outcome of this election' ,” Nov. 6), he has not specifically denounced Trump’s actions. To gain at least this constituent’s trust, Rep. Stauber must do so quickly and publicly.
