Reader's View: Stand up for reproductive rights
It is time to pay attention and speak out.
Reproductive rights are under attack. The Supreme Court has permitted Texas to enact S.B. 8, a law that allows any private citizen to sue any person who provides or assists a person obtaining an abortion after six weeks gestation. This law deputizes and rewards those who are eager and willing to insert themselves into a private decision, down to spying on the time, location, finances, and transportation a person uses to access their medical care.
Minnesota already has a number of abortion restrictions. Anti-abortion bills are regularly introduced. If you have needed or have considered having an abortion; if you have a partner, child, relative, friend, coworker, or neighbor who has needed or has considered having an abortion; or if you are a health care provider who has cared for someone who has needed or has considered having an abortion, you understand the importance of this right.
It is time to pay attention and speak out. We have arrived at this place because of apathy, fear, and stigma about standing up for reproductive rights and autonomy.

Letter writers are limited to one published submission every 30 days.

We will consider exclusive Local View columns of 600 words or fewer. Authors should possess unique insights, and their commentaries should demonstrate greater knowledge of their subject than letters.
