There will be a primary election on Aug. 11. I encourage everyone to do their own research before deciding for whom to vote. Don’t let other people or organizations dictate who you vote for. Find out for yourself which candidate matches what you want to see happen in our community.
Two of the three candidates for District 3 on the St. Louis County Board have LinkedIn pages. Those pages tell us a great deal about those two candidates. The first, Eric Erkkila, has a great deal of business experience, much of it mining related. Mining has been a huge employer in this county for many years. The second, Ashley Grimm, has organizational experience. She has worked with many nonprofits in the area. We do have a large number of people who need those types of agencies. Information on the third candidate, Joe Macor, can be found in a News Tribune article. He is a business owner in Duluth; he currently runs an adult foster care home and does coaching for alpine skiing and football. Training our children is important.
What is your vision for St Louis County? Which candidate matches that vision? All three have different life experiences. Which do you think will be most fiscally responsible with your tax dollars? Which would do the most to increase our tax base in these precarious times? Which would look to the core functions of our county and keep our taxes at a minimum?
Remember, elections have consequences. The people we elect will determine the course of our county for years to come. Do your research. Think for yourself.
