Reader's View: Public health more important than profits

Reader's View.jpg

The coronavirus circulating through our communities leaves us with a choice. Do we temporarily forego some economic growth in order to protect the lives of our fellow citizens?

Certain voices, including that of our president, seem to be answering “no.” They seem prepared to forego public health to pursue economic growth. They suggest we gamble the lives of our mothers, fathers, children, and loved ones to protect short-term profit margins.

I disagree with these voices. Call me old fashioned, but we once had a word for exchanging the lives of our fellow citizens for monetary gain. The word was treason.
