Reader's View: Nice pay raise for new superintendent

Reader's View.jpg

I certainly hope the new Duluth public schools superintendent can lead as well as he negotiates. Kudos to him for getting a bump in pay of $41,984 from his position with the Green Bay Area Public Schools.

There he earned $145,516 in 2018-’19, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. In Duluth he’ll earn $187,500, as the News Tribune reported (“ Duluth superintendent contract lays out evaluation, communication process, ” April 22).

Granted, it would have been insulting to pay the new superintendent less than the current superintendent, but for him to start $12,700 above the current salary of $174,800 is impressive for him — especially with the Duluth school district having financial issues (“ Duluth Public Schools face large deficit for 2020-2021 school year ,” April 19).
