Reader's View: Natural-gas story missed simple solution

Switch the tax breaks from the fossil-fuel companies to the farmers.

The Aug. 26 column in the News Tribune, “ Minnesota farmers can't afford risky attacks on US natural gas ,” somehow missed seeing a simple solution. Switch the tax breaks from the fossil-fuel companies to the farmers. A well-known economic tactic is to subsidize the things you want more of and tax the things you want less of.

Economics is not rocket science, but some column writers sure can make it confusing.
