Reader's View: Look to Europe for nice streets

If you want to see very nice streets that very seldom need repairs, and last for hundreds of years, you need to go to any country in Europe. They mainly use bricks that are perfectly fitted together and can be removed if something beneath them needs fixing, and then set back in place. No need to use a jackhammer in the process.

I was in Germany and other countries for two years and that really impressed me.

The autobahn doesn’t use bricks, but whatever they use holds up very well. I never saw any of them being worked on. No detours.

I didn’t see anything that was similar to blacktop anywhere.

Letters are limited to 300 words, must be the original work of the author and must be exclusive to the News Tribune. Letters are edited for style, space, accuracy and civility.

Letter writers are limited to one published submission every 30 days.

With rare exceptions, the News Tribune does not publish poetry; letters that are anonymous, libelous or attack other writers; consumer-complaint letters; thank-you letters; or letters generated by political or special-interest campaigns.

We will consider exclusive Local View columns of 600 words or fewer. Authors should possess unique insights, and their commentaries should demonstrate greater knowledge of their subject than letters.
