A June 1 letter complimented the Duluth Public Library for its curbside service to check out books during this time of closings. I have had similar experience and heartily echo the letter’s praise for the work of the library staff.
Ben Franklin said that an educated citizenry is the bedrock of a democracy and the only way to preserve one in the long term. Our nation and our Duluth community need an educated and thinking citizenry now more than ever in our past. A free press, a good public-school system, and accessible libraries are the foundation of an educated citizenry.
God help us if television and the internet ever become our sole sources of learning.
