I read with interest the Jan. 9 editorial in the News Tribune, headlined, “ Republicans must stop enabling Trump, move on .”
Beneath the editorial, under “Overheard,” were comments from Rep. Pete Stauber, including, “No excuses for this type of behavior” and, “It’s simply unacceptable.”
Four Minnesota Republican U.S. House representatives — Jim Hagedorn, Michelle Fischbach, Stauber, and Tom Emmer — decried the violence but remained mostly silent on whether President Donald Trump and other GOP leaders bear any blame for the violent attacks on the U.S. Capitol in the insurrectional rioting on Jan. 6.
I wonder what Stauber was thinking when he took office in 2018 and read the oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies. Apparently, Stauber accepted or misinterpreted the oath.
Stauber has been a loyalist to President Trump, and Trump has embraced white nationalists who undermine the Constitution, destroy democracy, and have ties to a deranged conspiracy cult. Stauber has largely remained silent, seemingly accepting Trump's blatant lies and disregarding. He seems to be influenced by right-wing misinformation, and has aided and abetted the rhetorical flamethrower Trump.

Stauber’s written campaign platform stated that District 8 residents deserve strong, principled leadership in Washington, D.C., strengthening security, and someone committed to serve all his constituents. He wrote that he was that person. I disagree.
I find it unacceptable that Stauber is not serving the 8th District with integrity, honor, or humility and isn’t working for the constituents. He lacks leadership to serve the Northland. It is not his way of life; it is his way of life with Trump.
Stauber hasn’t apologized nor given an explanation to his constitution for his unacceptable behavior. He needs to be held accountable, apologize, and adhere to his oath of office. Or he needs to resign.
