The president of the United States invited groups to Washington, D.C., and held a rally with the specific intent to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which the Congress subsequently certified. He also incited a mob, which marched on the Capitol building and overtook it. As a direct result of his actions and exhortations, at least five people died, including an officer who was defending the elected representatives inside. Moreover, the rioters vandalized and desecrated the center of our democracy while calling for the deaths of the vice president and House speaker.
This act was the very definition of sedition and clearly a “high crime,” as outlined in the Constitution, a document Rep. Pete Stauber and other representatives from Minnesota swore to uphold. Their path forward is simple: Vote to impeach President Donald Trump or live forever with the knowledge that their claims of representing law and order and patriotism were nothing but a sham to advance their own political aspirations.
