"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State" are words not often used by gun-rights advocates. Those words are the first half of the Second Amendment. We had an assault-weapons ban for 10 years. Was the 10-year assault weapons ban an infringement on the Second Amendment? Not in any U.S. court.
Methinks the gun-rights folks think every attempt to keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people is just a slippery slope toward confiscation. I don't think the 200 years of gun ownership by our ancestors and my current ownership is going to end. Nor that reasonable regulation will in any way take away our right.
