Reader's View: GOP legacy is pro-white, pro-guns

Part of the Republican legacy: guns are good, lots of guns are better, and wearing your guns strapped to your body in public is best.

After four years in control of the White House, the Republicans and their legacy might look something like this: It’s good to be white, European, or caucasian white; it’s best to be Christian, not Muslim or Jewish or of native cultural beliefs; and if you have money, you will be favored by party leadership and not so much if you are poor or not white.

Also likely part of the Republican legacy: guns are good, lots of guns are better, and wearing your guns strapped to your body in public is best. And, when a disease starts killing people, ignore it; those aren’t “your people” dying. And, yes, you can lie and cheat and even get caught, but as long as Republicans rule it doesn’t matter; your powerful Republican friends with money will make sure you make more money by passing favorable tax laws, stripping away bothersome regulations, and generally ignoring your financial “missteps.”

Many Republicans seem to believe it’s OK to put children in cages and tear apart families, as long as the families are from Mexico and Central America.

These may also become some of the future requirements for joining the party and having it support you. Oh, and you’ll have to be a very sore loser when your candidate’s campaign fails.

As for me, I’m remaining independent of all political parties.
