Reader's View: Duluth hat a hit in California

There are a lot of people living in southern California who have a connection to Duluth, mostly first-generation and some second-generation Californians whose parents or grandparents came from Duluth

On Nov. 14, I attended the Vikings-Chargers game in the new $5 billion SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. A new wonder of the world. Knowing that many fans who go to Chargers games are fans of their opponents, I wore a Vikings jacket and a hat that read, “Duluth, Minnesota.”

The stadium was a sea of Vikings purple and gold. Chargers fans were literally few and far between. Every conceivable form of Vikings paraphernalia was on display. But the highlight of my day, aside from the Vikings committing 10 penalties and still somehow managing to win, was the reaction I received to my hat.

There are a lot of people living in southern California who have a connection to Duluth, mostly first-generation and some second-generation Californians whose parents or grandparents came from Duluth. And some still savor the connection.

All in all it was a great day for the Vikings and Vikings fans — and for my hat.
