Good news is sometimes hard to find, but here’s some: Excellent progress is being made in the vaccination campaign to beat COVID-19 (“ Minnesota nears 50% of eligible residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19 ,” May 10). With enough people vaccinated, there is hope to get back to a normal life.
More good news: a better normal is possible, thanks to equity measures like the increases in the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit. Made permanent, these tax credits can cut child poverty in half. More equity measures are in President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan. We can help America reach this new normal of equity for all by asking our members of Congress to pass these and other pieces of legislation. Our calls, emails, and visits to our representatives can help build the political will for Congress to take action on these critical initiatives.
