Reader's View: Canal Park parking for patrons, not employees

Those who work in Canal Park should be contracting with the DECC for their parking.

I went to Canal Park for lunch. I have to say that after a very long year it felt good.

As I drove down Canal Park Drive, I was concerned when I drove by the large parking lot and saw a sign advertising seasonal parking passes. This lot should be for those who are customers, guests, and visitors to Canal Park. Those who work in Canal Park should be contracting with the DECC for their parking. Yes, that may be a little more inconvenient, but the success of the businesses in Canal Park depends on these customers.

If this is a plan by the company that manages the parking lot to “prove” a need to spend $20 million to $30 million on a ramp just to improve its profits, we must stop it now.

Yes, we have to make sure it is safe for those who have to leave work late at night, and I believe it can be made safe. We must keep the parking in Canal Park for the businesses’ customers and for the visitors to our community.
