Some reasons have occurred to me to not be hasty in criticizing the Capitol Police if at least one of them posed for selfies with those who broke into the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Their images may be saved somewhere and reveal their identity and record where they were in the vast reaches of the Capitol building that day. And, you never know, getting close and personal with the intruders may have been a way to distract them and slow their push to invade the House and Senate Chambers, which may have led to more destruction.

In an emergency, seconds matter.
