Ninth-grade civics taught me we have three co-equal branches of federal government. These co-equal branches, we were taught, provide us with a system of checks and balances that ensures governing stability and enshrines the rule of law.
On Jan. 6, the Executive Branch incited rioters to attack and disrupt the Legislative Branch, threatening to destabilize our cherished system of checks and balances. This deliberate action by the Executive Branch is an impeachable offense. So, too, is the tragic loss of life, one of whom was a law enforcement officer.
