In the weeks after the election I have seen an unprecedented number of letters in the News Tribune attacking our congressman, Pete Stauber, some in a vicious manner. I want to express my support for Congressman Stauber who has every right to sign on to any challenge to the recent election. This does not make him unpatriotic or undemocratic. I hope this is not a preview of things to come under the new presidential administration.

For those of you expressing the wish to have unity for the country under this new administration, let’s hope that unity does not equate with conformity or with canceling people because they hold a different viewpoint. The road to a totalitarian regime may be full of good intentions at the end of the day, but hatred and intolerance for other people's views becomes the end result.

Ask me. I’ve been there.
