Don't get excited about Great Lake cruise ships coming to Duluth ("Port prepares for cruise ship visits," Jan. 23). The "dock workers" will probably strike the moment the cruise ship is spotted.
Remember the 1980s when every boat of grain from the Dakotas went down the Mississippi River, and the International Freighters were anchored up offshore and then just turned around and left because the longshoremen went on strike? Remember when the Iron Range economy went into a recession (and is still suffering) because of the miners on strike? Remember when iron ore mining shifted to Brazil and away from Minnesota?
Working in Minnesota should have been very prosperous, but workers just don't get it.
