Over the years, I have written several letters to the News Tribune concerning our current president. I have always made my contempt for President Donald Trump very clear over various matters, yet I never considered the man to be a warmonger. For example, when Iran shot down a drone that may have violated their airspace, Trump did not use the incident to start a conflict. Good for him, I thought.
My opinion has completely changed since he ordered the killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani. Trump sycophants at Fox News had been cheerleading for an audience of one to start a war. It seems they may get their wish.
Years ago, Trump predicted in several off-the-wall tweets that President Barack Obama would start a war with Iran to secure his re-election. It appears our president has a disturbing problem with projection. Obama, of course, never started a war with Iran; he power-brokered an international agreement to ensure Iran would never develop nuclear weapons. Trump, of course, repudiated this agreement, and now we seem to be on the brink of war with a country that historically has hated us, for good reason, for over half a century.
Why is our president taking such drastic actions? Could it be he is frantic about half the country supporting the articles of impeachment passed by the House of Representatives?
I’ll say this again: I will be relieved when our country is free of this incompetent businessman.
