The Nov. 7 letter, “Letters boost global battle against disease,” reminded us that grassroots, proactive letter-to-the-editor writing, etc., as well as cooperation, can bring results. After all, it was Republicans and Democrats working together recently that facilitated the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria being supported for another three years.

Another obvious way to make our world a better place is simply to vote. As the News Tribune commented some time ago, Duluth's voter turnout in the 2016 presidential election was 72%, which compared favorably to the 61.4% of eligible adult U.S. citizens who voted in the same election.
