This is to make a correction to the Aug. 30 letter, "Beware of letters from the right wing.” It suggested that I and two others from out of state who wrote letters that were published in the News Tribune had no connection to Duluth.

I indeed do have connections to Duluth. It is my hometown. We moved to Texas after my son graduated from Central High School and from the University of Minnesota Duluth. I read the News Tribune, Superior Telegram, and Ashland Daily Press every morning online while having my coffee. Several times a day, via a web camera in Canal Park, I watch the ships come into and go out of the Duluth harbor. I am in contact with family and friends in the Duluth-Superior area on a regular basis and try to visit the area once a year.

I don't know if the letter writers from New Jersey and Iowa also have ties to Duluth — other than apparently reading the News Tribune online. But it would not surprise me if they do.

It is unwise to "assume" things without knowing the facts.
