Reader's View: Bear-attacks situation 'such a shame'

This is regarding the bear attacks in the Ely area ("Isabella man recounts bear attack," Dec. 21).

Perhaps the initial victim's dog found the bear's hibernation den, especially if it could have been nothing more than a pile of leaves. Perhaps the bear woke up disoriented and lashed out at its subsequent victims. This seems a perceivable scenario.

Hearing that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officers later found the bear curled up and then dispatched her was heartbreaking. But I understand their protocol for aggressive bears.

I'm sorry for the men's pain and fear, but this whole situation just seems such a shame.
