Letters published on the News Tribune Opinion pages on March 18 (Reader’s View: “Christians dismiss Trump's transgressions”) and April 21 (Reader’s View: “Anything goes with irrational propaganda”) were examples of disreputable misdirection.

The letters’ contrived morality and divisive anti-Christian sentiments accused Americans exercising their constitutional rights as being less Christian because of how they voted and offensively insinuated that Christians idolized some politicians.

Our nation, if not under God, is not indivisible. Beware the scores of sore losers and overindulged adults made visible by the 2016 election, including technocrats, power-mongers, and finance-supporting unscrupulous politicians (media-Democrat collusion). Beware their perverted agendas; Democrat-led antisemitism; incompatible cultural shifts; support for illegal immigration; biased government agencies; false criminal allegations; spying frauds; activist judges; and left-leaning mainstream media, which substitute opinions for news, sacrificing truth and civility, creating bias, and enabling fact manipulation.

In stark contrast, our Founding Fathers’ reliance on God enabled them to envision our government’s authority, derived from God’s authority, giving “we the people” power to influence laws protecting life, marriage, and families.

In President George Washington’s first inaugural address, he recognized mutual reliance between preserving the “sacred fire of liberty,” or the destiny of our republic — an “experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people” — and “smiles of heaven.” He acknowledged God’s blessings: “No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand … more than the people of the United States. … Every step by which we advanced, … distinguished by some token of providential agency.”

He warned Americans: “Smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which heaven itself has ordained.”

Most Americans respect each other irrespective of faith or politics and expect to exercise their constitutional rights without ridicule. Thank God Americans’ constitutional rights stand in the way of Democrat agendas incompatible with our republic.

Have a happy Independence Day.
