The Russians move into a Crimea that should have stayed Russian with its majority Russian population. Republican war drums begin to roll as they accuse President Barack Obama of not getting tough. I am sure they will be in the front rank as we march on to the Kremlin. After all, Napoleon and Hitler demonstrated how simple it is to attack Russia.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, has blown his trumpet, stating, regarding Ukraine, we have a "weak and indecisive president" who "invites aggression."

He must know there is nothing militarily any American president could or would have done to deter Russian President Vladimir V. Putin in this situation. What did President Dwight D. Eisenhower do to deter the Russian invasion of Hungary in 1956? What did President Lyndon B. Johnson do to deter the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968?

In 1962, Republicans and senior military leaders wanted to challenge Russia with an invasion of Cuba during that missile crisis. Fortunately, a cooler-headed President John F. Kennedy stayed at the helm.

I think we can rely on Obama to manage this crisis with appropriate measures before the war trumpets sound.
