2008 has been a challenging year, and I'm happy to say I anticipate 2009 will be much improved.
As times change for better or worse, there's one constant I have personally witnessed over time, and that is the dedication of our teachers. During the holiday break, I talked with a group of teachers who had been working on their own time in their unheated classrooms getting ready for January lessons. The amount of time spent planning for each school day is immeasurable and should be acknowledged.
So as we ring in the new year, I raise my glass to the teachers in our fine city, state and nation. I thank them all for their hard work and dedication and for being a constant in our changing world.
