After the stock market plunged I was so glad President Bush did not get his way when he proposed putting people's Social Security money in it. If he had, more people would have lost even more money than they did. Since most people don't know all that much about the stock market, they might have picked stocks someone said were good but crashed. Social Security needs to be protected for the future. Putting Social Security in the stock market is never a good idea. The market is too volatile.

As it was, many people who did not invest in the stock market but who had annuities in companies like AIG were worried about their retirement funds.

It seems like even now the government is not really looking out for the little guys' money. I was horrified when I heard how the CEOs of AIG spent money after the government bailed them out and how nothing was done about it.

It scares me to think about what could happen to retirement funds in the future if things keep on the way they are going. At least for now I know my Social Security money is OK. I hope no other future president has the same idea of investing people's money in the stock market, though.
