Denfeld’s 1947 boys basketball team is the only Denfeld basketball team to win a state title. The team’s head coach was Lloyd Holm. Team members were Rudy Monson, Larry Tessier, Paul Nace, Kenneth Sunnarborg, Eugene Norlander, Howard Tucker, Tony Skull, Jerry Walczak, Bruce Budge, Keith Stolen and student manager Bob Scott.

We thank the Duluth community for supporting our family by attending the candlelight vigil and walk against gun violence on Dec. 29 ("Duluth family joins 'tragic club'"). Many in the community attended to show their support and respect for Kevin and our family. There was singing, a variety of readings, and a moment of silence to remember our beloved little brother. The candlelight walk from Lincoln Park to Harrison Community Recreation Center was an amazing sight, a living, beautiful ribbon of hope and light in the darkness. It was a heartbreakingly beautiful celebration of Kevin's life.

We will never forget how so many people took time out of their busy lives to show up on that bitterly cold Saturday evening to express their love and respect to Kevin and our family. It felt as if a part of the pain and brutality of Kevin's murder was replaced by a love and a gentleness that was very powerful and alive. It was a truly healing experience.

Again, thank you to those who could physically attend and those who sent us their prayers, love, and condolences. We feel Kevin was truly honored and blessed by the community.

Kevin Weiss was shot and killed in Gary-New Duluth in December. A longtime acquaintance was arrested and has been charged.
