Walter John Repnicka

Walter John Repnicka was born in Duluth on February 7, 1926. He was raised on Garfield Ave. by his parents Bernice and Emil Repnicka. He passed away peacefully on October 9, 2020. He was 94.

Walter was a World War ll Army veteran. Walter worked a variety of jobs, the last being the U.S. Steel Plant in Morgan Park where he spent thirty years working in the Coke Division. After retirement he enjoyed monthly coffee with the friends he had made there. Walter frequented local restaurants, meeting with friends and making new ones. He was known for kindness and friendly nature.

Every week he and Joyce drove down to Garfield Ave. to check on current wildlife and any new happenings at the Grain Elevators. Walter read several newspapers and was very interested in the current events of our Duluth, National and Worldly News.

Walter was an avid runner until his early ninety’s. He loved nature, feeding the local stray cats and wildlife in his neighborhood.

He was a fisherman, hunter, and an accomplished gardener. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Helen, Bernice, and Clara.

He is survived by his nieces Joanne (Jim) Loukes, Patricia Pohlman, and Claudia Godfrey; as well as his friend Terry and his dear friend and longtime companion Joyce.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Essentia staff who were so loving and kind to Walter.

Private funeral services were held. Burial was at Polish Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, 218-727-3555.
